If you thought Indianapolis was just about racing and football, think again. Last Saturday night, the historic Broad Ripple neighborhood turned into a massive, neon-drenched block party that nobody saw coming but everyone will be talking about for the rest of the year: the first-ever Monon Glow Festival.
From 6:00 PM until midnight, a two-mile stretch of the famous Monon Trail was shut down and transformed into a glowing, high-energy wonderland. Part street food market, part electronic music festival, and 100% pure celebration.
Bright Lights, Big Vibes
The energy was electric from the jump. Local artists lined the trail, turning ordinary trees and brick walls into interactive, neon light installations that reacted to the beat of the music.
Here are the highlights that stole the show:
- The Neon Food Truck Alley: Local Indy favorites served up festival-exclusive treats, from glowing cotton candy to neon-glazed donuts and illuminated mocktails.
- The Silent Disco Woods: Tucked away in a wooded section of the trail, hundreds of people danced in total silence, wearing glowing headphones switched between three different local DJs competing for the crowd’s energy.
- The Living Canvas: A massive interactive wall where attendees could grab UV paint and leave their own glowing marks, messages, and street art.
“I’ve lived in Indy for ten years, and I’ve never seen Broad Ripple vibrate like this. The community spirit was unmatched—just pure joy and great music under the stars,” said one festival-goer, sporting neon face paint.
A New Circle City Tradition?
The festival reached its peak near the central stage with a surprise collaborative set featuring local brass musicians jamming alongside live electronic beats, culminating in a spectacular, eco-friendly drone light show over the white river.
By midnight, the lights dimmed and the music wrapped up, but the buzz on Instagram and TikTok hasn’t stopped. While the organizers—a mysterious collective of local creators—haven’t officially confirmed a return date, the overwhelming success makes a second annual Monon Glow Festival almost a certainty.
Keep your eyes on the trail; you won’t want to miss the next one!
